A visit from a REAL theatre critic!

As part of our Matilda learning experience, we wanted to give the children a real purpose to write.

They have been tasked with becoming theatre critics with the opportunity to see their writing published by the Chichester Observer! Having spent the first few days exploring reviews and getting to know the story of Matilda, today was a real treat! We were incredibly lucky to be visited by Kate Bassett and Richard Knowles from the Chichester Festival Theatre.

Kate is a journalist, columnist and theatre critic, as well as literary advisor for CFT. She guided the children through a typical ‘day in her life’ and gave a real insight into the highs and lows of being a theatre critic. The children’s questions were fantastic and they listened with delight to her stories of her best and worst experiences. This really hooked the children in and I am sure some children will be keen to explore this job further in the future!

If you would like to find out more about Kate, the CFT recently interviewed her for their CFT podcast – log on to find out more!
