What really happens on an INSET day?

On the 24th May we had our final INSET day of the academic year and our focus was on assessment and moderation.

We spent the day discussing what we know about our children as our learners, looking closely at the children’s learning and identifying what the children’s next steps of learning are. We worked in teams and spent a lot of time celebrating the amazing progress the children have made; looking back at those first pieces of work from September and taking a moment to appreciate the hard work that both children and their supporting adults have put into their learning before then moving on to decide on next steps.

I was lucky enough to sit in on these discussions and the words ‘ONLY ONE YOU’ resonated loud and clear in every discussion... the knowledge our teaching staff had of the progress of each of the children in their class was both impressive and humbling.
